The Art Exhibition, 2 – 11 May 2008

‘Get Britain Breastfeeding’ is open to the public from Friday, May 2nd – May 11th 2008, 10am – 7pm at the Dray Walk Gallery, Dray Walk, The Old Truman Brewery, off Brick Lane, London, E1 6QL.

‘Get Britain Breastfeeding’ art exhibition is the culmination of two exciting art competitions run by charity Best Beginnings in association with NHS London, D&AD Student Awards and Dr William Wynn-Jones. The exhibition has been made possible thanks to funding from the London Strategic Health Authority and will showcase the finished artwork of students from Central St Martin’s School of Art and Design and D&AD. The Central St. Martins School of Art and Design students have created iconic poster designs and D&AD students have created powerful postcards. All the art has been designed to raise awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding.

At its heart, the Get Britain Breastfeeding exhibition is designed to drive a positive cultural shift where breastfeeding becomes the norm, not the exception, so that the UK becomes a society where women are supported to breastfeed for as long as they choose.

Breastfeeding is the healthiest way to feed your child – its also free and readily available for your baby, any time, any place. Click here to find out some incredible breastfeeding facts.

Best Beginnings has teamed up with NHS London, the Healthy Schools Programme and Tower Hamlets Primary Care Trusts to ensure that significant numbers of school children have the opportunity to enjoy and learn from the exhibition in the lead up to Breastfeeding Awareness Week (12 – 19 May 2008).

Visitors will be invited to develop a greater knowledge and appreciation of what babies need for a healthy start in life through an interactive guidebook. During peak visiting times, breastfeeding counsellors and peer support workers will be available to raise awareness and point people to local breastfeeding support services. There will also be preview extracts from the new DVD guide to breastfeeding that Best Beginnings is making in collaboration with the Department of Health.
